| A: | Recyclable corrugated cardboard is banned from the CR/LC SWA landfill; if cardboard is present tipping fee doubles to $70 per ton. Cardboard can be recycled at both Agency locations. |
| Q: | Can I buy compost in bulk from the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency? |
| A: | BULK compost is FREE for existing residential uses - all other users (new construction) can purchase bulk compost for $8.00 per cubic yard (plus tax). For more information contact the compost facility at 398-5160. |

| A: | For Cedar Rapids and Marion: Paint cans must be completely empty or completely dried out. The lid goes into the trash and the empty paint can must be placed curbside next to the trash can. Sticker is not needed. Other communities should check with their local hauler for disposal regulations. |

| A: | Once drained of all gas and oil, most lawn care equipment - lawn mower, snow blower can be disposed of for FREE at both Agency locations. |

Metal sinks can be recycled for FREE at both Agency locations. Acrylic and porcelain sinks can be landfilled at the County Home Road location. Sinks in good condition should be donated to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 725 North Center Point Road, Hiawatha. Call 294-1500 for more information. |

| A: | Tires are recycled at both Agency locations - FEE based on tire size and whether they are $off-rim / $on rim: Automotive tires $1 / $2; Truck tires $10 / $15; Tractor tires $25. |
| Q: | How do I dispose of an old appliance (dishwasher, stove, refrigerator, microwave, freezer, washer, dryer, hot water heater, humidifier, etc.)? |
| A: | Appliances are banned from Iowa landfills. They are accepted at Agency locations and require a $9.00 per appliance recycling fee. |
| Q: | What can I do with drywall or pallets that I no longer need? |

Drywall is treated as solid waste at the landfill on County Home Road, landfill tipping fee applies to all drywall brought in for disposal. Clean pallets (free of paint) are accepted at Compost for $15 per ton (a savings of $20 per ton over landfilling!) All other pallets are treated as solid waste and should be landfilled. |
| Q: | How do I dispose of unwanted paint (and other hazardous chemicals)? |
| A: | LATEX paint can be dried out and put in with regular trash. ALL other paint along with household hazardous materials can be safely disposed of for FREE at our Pollution Prevention Center with an appointment. CALL 377-5290 to schedule a convenient drop-off time between 9:00 and 4:30 Tuesday - Saturday. |
