About us

The Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency operates two resource recovery facilities in Linn County, Iowa, that serve its 18 communities.  Governed by a board of directors, our number one priority is to ensure the health, safety and welfare of Linn County residents by managing discarded materials in a way that is environmentally sound and cost effective. The Agency operates:

Landfill & Recycling

1954 County Home Road, Marion

Hours: 7:00 - 4:30 (closed Sundays)

  • Landfill: a Class D landfill that includes leachate management, methane gas recovery, and environmental management systems.
  • Pollution Prevention Center: a program where residents can bring their household hazardous materials.
  • Resource Recovery Center: currently in the design stage, this building will consolidate other buildings, facilitating the drop-off and processing of recyclables and increasing material (resource) recovery.
  • Recycling Drive Thru: a residential drive-through center and several outside areas for dropping off, sorting and processing recyclables.
  • Shingle Recycling: a business and residential drop-off location for clean shingle loads.  Loads accepted will be ground and used in asphalt.
  • Swap Shop: a building where Linn County residents can pick up paint, cleaners and other products for free. The products are initially brought in to our Pollution Prevention Center by businesses and residents.  Viable products are placed here for reuse.

Compost, Recycling & Wood Recovery

Hours (April - Nov): 7:00 - 4:30 (closed Sundays)
Hours (Dec - March): 7:00 - 3:00 (closed Saturdays and Sundays) 

  • Compost Facility: a pick-up location for bulk compost and wood chips (when available).
  • Landfill: reopened in 2008 to take flood debris. It will close again when flood clean-up demolition is completed. Residential and non-flood waste is NOT accepted at this location.
  • Recycling Center: a drop-off location for recyclables and electronics.
  • Wood Recovery: a drop-off location for clean wood waste
