Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency is a government agency formed in 1994 by a partnership agreement between the "City of Cedar Rapids" and "Linn County". The purpose of this partnership was two-fold:
- to more efficiently manage the garbage generated in Linn County;
- to more efficiently meet state-mandated waste reduction goals.
Cedar Rapids and Linn County were required by state law to provide a total of $8 million to the Agency when it was formed. These funds are designated for the future costs of closing the two landfills previously owned and operated by the city and county.
All other communities in Linn County are associate members of the Agency. This also allows these communities and their residents to:
- dispose of their waste in the landfill or other waste management facilities such as the "Pollution Prevention Center" and the compost facility.
- receive assistance from the Agency in planning and implementing programs to meet state-mandated waste reduction and recycling responsibilities.
Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency is a local government agency responsible for waste management and recycling in Iowa's Linn County.
