| Ensuring health, safety, and welfare of the community through cost-effective and environmentally-sound practices for management of solid waste generated in Linn County |
Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency is a government agency, and as such, is operated on a not-for-profit basis. However, the agency's operations are NOT funded by local tax dollars. Tipping fees paid by landfill users provide the Agency's operating revenue.
Cedar Rapids/Linn County receives very specific project and program grants from the State of Iowa's Department of Natural Resources. For example, the Pollution Prevention Center, designed for the safe disposal of household hazardous materials, was partially funded by a grant from the Department of Natural Resources.
State of Iowa code dictates how our solid waste will be managed by the cities and counties in which we live. This code directs:
- the planning
- implementation of those plans
- required permitting
- taxing
- management
of all waste management systems and technologies in Iowa.
Agency staff and its Board of Directors strictly adhere to the waste management rules outlined by the Iowa code.
