Community education, services
At the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency, we want to create a greener community, one in which the first impulse is not to throw something away! To further that goal, we offer:
Speakers for your group
Our educator can make an informed presentation to your community group (Kiwanis, Rotary, homeowner's association, Chamber of Commerce, church group, garden club, library). We can speak to topics such as the importance of recycling, how a landfill operates or we can tailor our presentation to fit the needs of your organization. Contact us.
Community partnership grants
We provide funding of up to $7,500 for waste reduction and other environmental projects. Learn more from our Community Partnership Grant Guidelines & Application
X-Stream recycling bins
Planning a special event? Let us help you sort your recyclables with X-Stream bins and bags. We offer bins for deposit bottles and cans, curbside-type recyclables and compostable material. Contact us for more information.
Recycling assistance
Not sure how or where to go to reduce what you are sending to the landfill? Check our Recycling Guide for specific item information.
Public tours
Learn where garbage goes after it is picked up at the curb during a public tour at either Solid Waste Agency location. Most tours last 45 minutes to one hour. Up to six people can tour the site in a Solid Waste Agency vehcile. If there are more than six in your group, please plan to use your vehicle on the tour. Please make reservations at least 10 days in advance.
Help for community clean-up events
Our Community Clean Up Guide will discuss issues that communities need to consider and questions they need to answer when planning a community clean-up event.
