Lessons, presentations for schools
Are you teaching a unit on recycling, landfills or environmental stewardship? Let the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency help! Our educator would be happy to visit your Linn County classroom with a presentation tailored to meet your needs. Here's how:
Preschools
Our preschool lessons are best suited for 4- to 5-year-old school groups, but we can tailor a lesson for children as young as three. For preschool children, we typically emphasize sorting and grouping garbage and recyclables. We introduce new vocabulary words in an interactive and fun way. Contact the Education Coordinator to discuss ideas and schedule a visit.
K-12 Classrooms
Our lessons for K-12 classrooms can be tailored to your unit of study or you may choose one of our existing presentations. Topics of focus include reduction of solid waste, reuse of materials, recycling, landfill design and engineering, electronics recycling and others. Our education coordinator is a K-5 Iowa licensed teacher with nearly a decade of classroom experience. Contact us to schedule a classroom visit.
To really make your lesson hit home, schedule an on-site lesson and tour.
Higher Education Classrooms
Lessons for college students are available on various solid waste and landfill subjects as well as reduction, reuse, and recycling topics. Contact us to schedule a classroom visit and discuss a presentation topic to fit your needs. You can further enhance your unit with a field trip to our facility. An on-site tour will allow for a more engaging experience.
