Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) should never be dumped into a storm drain. Storm sewers flow directly into streams and rivers and never pass through a water treatment facility. |
| |
Never pour HHW down a sanitary sewer (toilet, sink, etc.) unless you are sure it is the correct disposal method. Contact the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency Pollution Prevention Center for more information. |
| |
If your home is connected to a septic tank instead of a municipal water treatment plant, use extra caution when disposing of HHW through a toilet or sink. HHW can be harmful to the bacteria in a septic tank that are necessary for the proper treatment of waste. Contact the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency Pollution Prevention Center for more information. |
| |
Never dump HHW into a ditch or stream and never pour HHW directly onto the ground. This may pollute ground and surface water supplies.
