Composting
Composting is a solid waste disposal option that recovers nutrient value from waste materials. The objective of composting is to turn organic waste matter into a uniform, relatively dry product suitable for use as a soil conditioner. The composting process includes four basic steps:
- front-end processing to remove unsuitable materials and reduce particle size
- decomposing waste materials
- curing when organic degradation within the raw compost stabilizes
- screening of any remaining inorganic contaminants
