Bring your hazardous household waste to Solid Waste Agency

Spring is here and it’s time to remove the clutter and deep clean the house.
Before you pour old household cleaners down the drain or toss rechargeable batteries and last year’s weed killer in the trash—think green.
Many household cleaners and chemicals make our chores easier—but along with the conveniences these products provide comes a responsibility to properly purchase, use, store and dispose of them.
The first step in handling Household Hazardous Materials (HHM’s) is reading the product label. In general, a product is a HHM, if its label lists one of the signal words: Caution, Danger, Warning or Poison. Labels also contain information about how to protect the environment and the health of your family. Label reading tips and other HHM educational and interactive tools for adults and children can be found at www.SafeSmartSolutions.org.
Your regional collection center is the Pollution Prevention Center (PPC), located at 1954 County Home Road, Marion. There we provide residents with a safe disposal solution for unwanted HHMs at no cost to you.
The Pollution Prevention Center challenges you to rethink the way you purchase, use and store HHMs. Review the website (www.SafeSmartSolutions.org) as a family, collect your unwanted HHMs and visit our PPC for safe disposal this spring by calling 319-373-4771 or online at www.solidwasteagency.org
