Volunteers help with marsh grass environmental project
04/05/2011 12:00pm
It is a process one does not get to see in action often. Today at the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency, 1954 County Home Road, Marion, volunteers are putting together seed balls.
A mixture of marsh grass seeds, clay, compost and water, the seed balls will be constructed today, stored until this fall, and then planted along the banks of the 13-acre pond that sits on the south-side of the Agency facility. The resulting growth will beautify the area and help with erosion control.
Ten volunteers from The Tapestry are helping put the seed balls together. The Tapestry is an organization that works to strengthen community spirit and respectfully address social and environmental issues.
If you would like to see the process in action, plus get a look at the 13-acre pond, give me a call and stop by today. The volunteers will be at the Agency from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
