Bring us your Christmas tree after the holidays

12/26/2011 12:00pm

There's nothing like the atmosphere, and the fragrant aroma, of a live evergreen tree in your home during the holiday season. But what should you do with that tree once the season has passed?

Linn County residents can bring their trees to the SWA Site 1 for drop-off anytime after Dec. 26. Trees should be un-flocked and free of all nails, decorations, tinsel, lights and tree stands. They also should not be bagged.

Normal yard waste policies and fees will also apply to holiday trees.

The trees will be ground up and used for mulch, burned in place of coal for electrical generation, or composted.

Many cities, including Cedar Rapids, pick up those Christmas trees curbside. Contact the officials in your community for more information.
