Free compost powers your garden

Empower your plants with compost produced at the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency’s compost facility. Organic materials that have been dropped off at our facility go through a controlled composting process, which produces a terrific soil conditioner that can be used for mulching, amending and top-dressing.

What is compost?

Compost is a crumbly brown, nutrient-rich soil additive. It's made from organic waste such as leaves, grass clippings and  food scraps.

Compost is available only at the Solid Waste Agency's A Street SW site. Linn County residents may take two cubic yards of compost per visit at no charge. Two cubic yards will more than fill the back of a regular-sized pickup truck bed.

Residents who want more than two cubic yards at one time may purchase additional compost from us.
