The Mount Trashmore trails and overlook are open for the 2019 season. Located at 2250 A Street SW, Cedar Rapids, the trails and overlook are built on top of the closed landfill called Mount Trashmore.
Because Mount Trashmore is a regulated site as a closed landfill, trail access will be during set hours.
Trail access hours for 2019:
Wed: 2:00pm – 8:00pm
Fri: 10:00am – 5:00pm
Sat: 12:00pm – 5:00pm
Sun: 8:00am – 12:00pm
Trail access is weather dependent. If there is rain and the trails are saturated, they will be closed to protect the trails from damage. There is a sign outside the main gate indicating if the trails are open or closed. Closures due to weather are also posted on the Agency website and Facebook page.
Solid Waste Agency staff will be on-site when Mount Trashmore is open. All trail users, both walkers and bicyclists, need to sign-in before using the trails. Users are encouraged to visit the Mount Trashmore webpage to read all rules and safety tips.
There are three trails. Stumptown Trail is 5,000’ long and is for walkers and hikers only; there are stairs on this trail. Overlook Trail is 3,400’ long and can be used by both walkers, bicyclists and those with strollers. Trashmore Trail is a 4,000’ long flow-trail that only goes downhill and is for bicyclists only. Users are recommended to use tires that are at least 2” or wider.
