Hi-Vis Requirement & FY'27 Pricing Begins July 01, 2026
Beginning on July 01, 2026, all visitors who use the landfill to unload garbage will be required to wear a Class 2 Hi-Vis safety vest while at the landfill working face. This includes both commercial account customers and cash-only customers. Users who do not have a Hi-Vis safety vest will be given a $10.00 fine. Safety vests can be purchased at the scale house for $10.00.
Hi-Vis safety vests create a safer working environment, making it easier for staff and customers to see each other.
Tipping Fee Changes Beginning July 01, 2026
The Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency FY’27 budget year begins July 01, 2026. The budget contains changes from the previous fiscal year, including increases in the garbage and yard waste tipping fees.
Rates and programs in FY’27 that will change include:
Standard Landfill--$53.00 per ton (increase of $3/ton) – Minimum $22.
Special Wastes--$85.00 per ton (increase of $15/ton; minimum 1/ton charge).
Bulky Wastes--$85.00 per ton (increase of $5/ton; list of bulky waste available here: https://www.solidwasteagency.org/garbage/restrictions).
Loads containing materials that are difficult to manage in bulk amounts and can pose a safety risk to the equipment operators, such as pallets, crates, and other wood products, and large pieces of metal, will be deemed bulky loads.
Box Truck and cargo van customers will be charged at least the 1-ton minimum ($53.00).
Double-axle trailers will be charged $53/ton plus a $50 convenience charge if they use the residential dumpsters, for a minimum charge of at least $103. Double-axle trailer loads taken to the landfill will pay the standard landfill tipping fee: $53/ton, minimum $22.
Yard & Wood Waste--$35.00 per ton (increase of $3/ton) – Minimum $15.
Commercial Finished Compost--$35.00 per ton (increase of $3/ton).
Commercial Recycling--$120.00 per ton (increase of $5/ton).
Commercial Hazardous Materials Processing--Various rates depending on the material (5% increase).
Rates and programs in FY’27 that will NOT change include:
Appliances – $10 per appliance
Garbage Flat Rate Charges for Cars/Minivans, Wagons, Crossovers, SUVs/Pickup Trucks
• Cars $12/vehicle
• SUVs, Crossovers, Wagons, Minivans $15/vehicle
• Pickup Trucks & Full-sized Vans $22/vehicle
Mattresses – $20 per mattress (mattresses can be dropped off at Willis Dady for $10 per mattress, details here: https://www.willisdady.org/mattress-recycling)
Finished compost for Linn County residents--No charge, no limit in personal residential sized vehicle (while supplies last). Double-axle trailers are considered commercial-sized and will incur a fee.
Free drop-off of residential household hazardous materials for Linn County residents (list of accepted materials can be found here: https://www.solidwasteagency.org/hazardous-materials/residential)
Free drop-off of curbside-type recyclable materials (paper, aluminum & steel cans, plastics #1 and #2) for Linn County residents
Waste tires for Linn County residents:
• $4 per tire off rim (up to eight (8) car, SUV, pickup, or minivan tires per visit)
• $5 per tire on the rim (up to eight (8) car, SUV, pickup, or minivan tires per visit)
• Quantities over eight (8) car, SUV, pickup, or minivan will be weighed and charged $0.15 per pound.
• All larger-sized tires (semi, tractor) will be weighed and charged $0.15 per pound
Wood chips--No charge for residential customers (while supplies last)
All TVs and monitors, regardless of size and make (CRT, LED, LCD, plasma, etc.) $15.00 per unit; loads with 5 or more TVs/monitors will be charged the bulk electronics fee, $0.25 per pound for bulk loads of electronics
Free drop off for the following materials:
• Scrap Metal
• Residential Fluorescent Tubes
• Cardboard (must empty, clean, dry, and flattened)
• Residential Waste Oil (20 Gallon Maximum)
• Residential Batteries
• Glass
• Residential Medical Sharps & Syringes
• Textiles
• Books (hardcover & softcover)
• CDs, DVDs, VHS Tapes, Cassette Tapes
